BRIDGE helps build sustainable village-based organizations in Ghana so groups are better equipped to reduce poverty. This
site highlights our local partners and the projects we collaborate on, and offers
opportunities to get involved through our overseas volunteer program. We offer Grassroots Tours to the slave trade castles on the coast with the mix of homestay experiences throughout the Volta's rural ecotourism sites. We also celebrate Ghanaian culture by presenting quicktime movies that
play their proverbs, folklore, music, and libations with English translations.

Testimony of a BRIDGE Volunteer, Morgan Dill |
I cannot adequately convey what the summer of 2006 in Adaklu meant to me. It was an amazing opportunity to integrate myself into a beautiful community, one that did everything possible to make me feel welcome. I formed memorable relationships with the Adaklu Youth and Education Committee (AYEC), our caretaker, Cate Ametepe, and the entire Ametepe family. The summer was spent training AYEC by working on grant proposals, computer skills, paragraph writing, and learning English skills to effectively communicate the great work that they are doing for Adaklu. Real progress was made in setting goals, learning how to convey them, and identifying where AYEC was succeeding and where they needed to improve.
But as I look back over the summer, I remember most of all the people and the friendships formed. It was an incredible experience, and this doesn't even begin to cover it.

40 Wheelchairs for Disabled Residents of Adaklu |
Through a collaboration with Emmanuel Yeboah, acclaimed spokesman and advocate for the disabled in Ghana, BRIDGE helped provide wheelchairs to disabled residents of Adaklu villages. After a tour in the US that brought to light his struggles as a disabled youth, Emmanuel received a grant from Oprah to make wheelchairs available in the rural areas. Our Volta Office supported the transport costs of these wheelchairs and organized the distribution to 40 residents who were able to set aside their walking sticks, some being mobile for the first time in their lives.

The American School of Warsaw, Poland, Funds Scholarship |
|
A group of secondary school students at an international school in Poland found a way to get a great workout while funding education at the same time. How did they do it? They secured pledges from all their friends and family for each lap they could run around a track in an hour. Thanks to their cardiovascular fortitude they were able to raise $1,500! Part of this money was donated to Bridge to fund a secondary school scholarship for a student named Wogbe. Thanks to everyone who ran for their incredible support!
