Boabeng-Fiema
Monkey Sanctuary

The Boabeng-Fiema Monkey Sanctuary is Ghana's most famous example of African conservation. It is home to over 160 Pied Colobus and 350 Campbell's Mona Monkeys. For over 150 years the people of the area between Boabeng and Fiema have considered the monkeys sacred and traditional beliefs prohibit harm coming to the monkeys. The monkeys and inhabitants live in relative harmony, and many times monekeys can be seen serving themselves from unsuspecting kitchens. These monkeys are relatively tame and may snatch your belongings too, if you’re not watching closely.
