Justin and Adam Justin and Adam are students at Notre Dame University. During their time in Ghana, they worked with two organizations: The Adaklu Mountain Tourism Committee (AMTC) and the Adaklu Youth and Education Committee (AYEC). They crafted two dozen workshops with their local counterpart in which they brought the two organizations together to build on a number of organizational skills. They helped these groups write funding proposals, complete semi-annual self-evaluations, and helped AYEC establish a reliable accounting system that incorporates receipts to hold members accountable for funds spent. However these practical contributions are just a fraction of their experience. As you can see from the photos below, as well as the article that was featured in the South Bend Tribune, the inter-cultural experience proved to be a powerful aspect of their time abroad. They gave, and they received; this is the essence of the inter-cultural experience. Read the article in the Tribune, which poignantly touches on a phenomenon that all Peace Corps Volunteers realized after spending a little time in Ghana: Ghanaians may be economically "poor", but that fact hardly equates to being socially poor. |
